Our Mission:

EXPRESS. GROW.

Studio Preschool is the first preschool dedicated to helping young children reach their highest IQ potential by fostering and developing their emotional intelligence. Exploring the world through art, music, theater and dance, the children at Studio Preschool build a foundation of emotional literacy, high resiliency, decision making powers, and an intrinsic motivation for learning and life. In our schools they become creative, non-linear and linear thinkers who quickly master their ABCs by learning the EQ skills needed to be the leaders of tomorrow.

“Children with higher emotional intelligence are better able to pay attention, are more engaged in school, have more positive relationships, and are more empathic.”

-National Association for the Education of Young Children (Raver, Garner, & Smith-Donald 2007; Eggum et al. 2011)

Our Program

We choose a “famous” piece of art as our inspiration for each learning unit: Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” to learn about animals, Monet’s “Haystacks” to learn about the seasons, Savion Glover’s “Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk” to teach counting/math and The Marvelette’s “Mr. Postman” to learn about community helpers are just a few of our amazing lessons.

Increases SELF AWARENESS:

When a child cannot portray their feelings in words, the performance arts help them to articulate and work through their emotions. Developing their ability to communicate both verbally and nonverbally is empowing to children. They relish the sense of accomplishment that comes with experimenting in a safe space and creating something where there was nothing before. When a child works in this way, they are using and honing their self awareness. Each time a child is vulnerable with their body through dance, with their voice through song, or with their feelings through theatre, they strengthen themselves and their growth mindset.

ENCOURAGES SOCIAL AWARENESS AND EMPATHY:

Nothing helps children learn more about the world around them and the other people in it than the arts. Whether it’s counting steps while learning about the Native American butterfly dance or practicing letters with the Book of Kells, we invite children to put themselves in the places and times of other people. This is the foundation of empathy and a life well lived with others.

Develops SELF REGULATION:

The process orientated nature of the arts means that children are always having to practice self regulation. When others join in, the ability to self regulate is layered and children begin to see how their emotions interplay with others. From normal transitions to surprise changes in the day, working with the arts help child learn how to stay calm under pressure.

ENCOURAGES MOTIVATION:

There is no right or wrong in the arts! When children explore the act of creation, they begin to discover what they love and they are excited about the very idea of learning. Asking why and keeping an open mind for discovery are the foundations of motivation that are laid during these formidable years. This skill is invaluable for keeping children engaged through every science project and fractions lesson to come.
